History and Highlights

Chichibu Fudosho (34 sacred places of the Kannon) is said to have been founded on March 18, 1234, and is thought to have been founded in the late Muromachi period (1336-1573), since the "Chichibu Fudosho Banzuke" from 1488 is still extant.

In the Edo period (1603-1867), the temple became a sacred site for pilgrimages to the Kannon by many common people in Edo.
It is one of the 100 sacred sites of the Kannon in Japan, along with the 33 sacred sites of the Kannon in the western part of the country and the 33 sacred sites of the Kannon in the eastern part of the country.
The pilgrimage route is about 100 km long, from the first temple, Shimanbuji Temple, to the 34th temple, Suizumi-ji Temple, where the quiet mountain villages and beautiful natural scenery provide a backdrop for the pilgrimage, preserving the atmosphere of those days.

The pilgrimage sometimes crosses valleys, mountain paths, and rice paddies, which is unique to Chichibu.
We hope you will enjoy the beautiful nature and make a connection with the Kannon.
