About Chichibu Fudasho Pilgrimage
The 34 Chichibu Fudosho (sacred places) are included in the 100th Kannon Sacred Sites in Japan, along with the 33 Saigoku and 33 Bando.
These sacred sites are located in Chichibu City, Chichibu County, Chichibu City, Chichibu County, Yokose Town, Minano Town, and Ogano Town in Saitama Prefecture.
The Chichibu fudosho (34 sacred places for the Kannon) is said to have been founded on March 18, 1234, and the Chichibu fudosho ranking list (Chokyobanzuke, Fudasho 32) from 1488 actually exists, suggesting that the Chichibu fudosho was established in the late Muromachi period (1333-1573).
After the start of the Edo period (1603-1867), the temple became a sacred place for pilgrimages to the Kannon by many common people in Edo (present-day Tokyo).
Today, the pilgrimage route is about 100 km long, passing through quiet mountain villages and beautiful nature from the first temple, Shimabu-ji, to the 34th temple, Suiseni-ji, while still retaining the atmosphere of those days.
