Chichibu Fudasho No.23 Ongaku-ji Temple
In spring, visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms and azaleas; in autumn, colorful leaves; and in winter, snowy landscapes.
The Kannon Hall, built in the 19th century, has carvings of pine, bamboo, and plum on its front.
Recently, the temple has become known for granting wishes related to music, because the temple’s name means “music.” Up-and-coming singers as well as famous artists visit to pray for successful songs.
At the mountain pass, the Thirteen Sacred Figures who founded the Chichibu pilgrimage sites are enshrined.

- Bonsho: This is a temple bell in front of the hall. It has 108 studs and six Kannon reliefs, producing a loud, clear sound.
- Temple Piano: This is an electronic piano in the Main Hall. It can be played by anyone with permission.

Long ago, when a hall was built here, a small deer appeared and guided the way. This is why the place came to be called Ogasaka, “Little Deer Hill.”
Of the many miracles passed down, one tells the story of a samurai warrior who deeply believed in Kannon. When he was ordered to go to battle, he was sad about leaving his elderly mother behind. His mother encouraged him and gave him a Kannon amulet from this temple, saying, “If you pray with this, you will be protected.”
He placed the amulet in his helmet and went to battle. He was unharmed by arrows or swords, and returned safely, victorious. After the war, he and his mother became monks and spent the rest of their lives in gratitude to Kannon.
