- A Merchant
Long ago, a merchant passing through this area was attacked by bandits, who stole his clothes and belongings and nearly killed him. He prayed sincerely, chanting Namu Kanzeon, a prayer to Kannon, and a lightning-like light shone from his amulet, blinding the bandits.
They returned the stolen items and apologized. Their sight soon came back, but the leader, afraid of divine punishment, became a monk and remained in the area. Later, the merchant brought a Kannon statue, and together they built a hall. This is said to be the principal image enshrined here to this day.
