When your fascinated by something new, don’t you take it in your hand, and get a warm fuzzy feeling from it? The product isn’t warm in itself, but it brings you a warm fuzzy feeling to you. “ami tumi” straw sandals are an item that has a mysterious warmth.
These handmade cloth sandals is made in Bangladesh which is one of the developing countries in the world. For them, instead of donating or temporary aid or volunteers, if we could only create a mechanism to approach a fundamental solution-. This awareness created the “Waraji Project” in 2011 by the student group called TEKITO JUKU. In this project, group members directly handed down Japan’s Waraji technique of art learned from craftsmen from Akita prefecture to Bangladeshi people, and instead of straw it is made using cloth for the sandals which are available locally, where the garment industry is prosperous. From the image of Japanese folk art, it is developing a renewal of pop coloring.
The LOVE CHICHIBU items are appeared as original products adding Chichibu ‘s features. The strap of the cloth sandal has two types of patterns , YABANE feather arrow pattern which is popular with Chichibu Meisen and a pattern that imaged fireworks at the Chichibu night festival. These were chosen by members who were to touched by Chichibu and the unique culture and nature of Chichibu.
“I was impressed by the use of the Chichibu Meisen silks beauty and the vivid colors display on them. So, I wanted to try to make something that used the Chichibu Meisen silk’s pattern. Now, the combination of a Japanese patterned motif and pop coloring made something wonderful that was different from the usual “ami tumi”.
“ami tumi” means “me and you” in Bengali, the native language of Bangladesh. Through cloth sandals, like the brand name hoping forvarious encounters, the member hope that many people who pick up this product will connect to Chichibu and get the opportunity to know even alittle bit about Bangladesh which made them happy. Those who are producing these sandals in Bangladesh seem very happy in their work.” Quoted by member Ms. Taguchi. She may feel this because the smiling faces of the craftsmen of these cloth sandals can be felt in the product.
Relax your feet in the cozy comfort of a soft cloth material fluffy. The straps will moderately stimulate the space between your toes to relieve fatigue.
