    Until the mid-19th century, this was a Shugendo temple, where monks practiced ascetic training in the surrounding mountains.
    The Kannon Hall, built in the mid-Edo period, in the early- to mid-18th century, features Chinese-style designs, showing the craftsmanship of the time.
    An inscribed board reading \u201cDaihikaku\u201d means \u201cthe palace of Kannon giving happiness.\u201d
    On the grounds are the Peace Kannon, praying for world peace and happiness, and the six Jizo statues.
    Every April 18, locals hold a festival, forming a circle and holding a large 10-meter bracelet of Buddhist prayer beads as they pass it around together.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
